Halloween was here before we knew it. The Saturday before Halloween, we took a family trip to Linder Farms pumpkin patch. Mema came with us this year. I think we picked the busiest day to go, it was pretty crowded but the kids still had fun and we all came home with pumpkins. This year we picked pumpkins that were different colors and shapes. Brooklyn's looked like a pear, and was yellow on top and green on the bottom.
As you can tell from the picture below we have Percy the Train, Sleeping Beauty, a scary witch and Princess Elsa. Aunt Rene did an awesome job making Owen's train costume. I can't get over how adorable he is. After dinner we headed out for trick or treating. The kids had fun for about the first 30 minutes then a fake spitting pumpkin scared them all and it sort of went downhill from there. Maybe next year we'll try a different neighborhood. :-)
A couple weeks after Halloween, we had a big snow storm with a record breaking 7.6 inches. The previous record for November snow fall was 7.4 inches 80 years ago. School was closed and the kids had a blast playing outside. All the neighborhood kids got together and played for hours and hours. Yeah for snow days!!!
The month of November flew by and soon it was Thanksgiving. Rene hosted Thanksgiving dinner this year. Kyle bought a delicious smoked turkey from Smoky Davis. We had a nice relaxing day of football, family and great food. Perfect Thanksgiving.
Lastly, I'd like to end this post with something I call "The Beany Report." I am happy to announce that Isla is 100% potty trained! Just a month shy of her 4th birthday and she no longer wets the bed. It was 17 months ago, July 2013, that she became "day" potty trained. We continued wearing diapers at night because she was still waking up every morning with a wet diaper. Eventually after she turned 3, the diapers were less appealing to her as she didn't want to be treated like a baby. So we switched to pull ups which seems to do the trick. Several months later, she started to realize the pull ups were really just like diapers and she wanted nothing to do with them. It was a constant battle to keep the pull ups on. We would let her try a night or two with out them and she would wake up in the middle of the night with a pee soaked bed; every single time. She's such a deep sleeper. Some nights we would convince her to wear the pull up, then after we tucked her in and left the room, she would take them off and put panties on. So we gave up on the pull ups and decided to just let her wet the bed. We would have a clean pair of sheets handy each and every night, and when she'd wake up with pee, we would change it out and go back to bed. It just became our routine. Around October, she started having random nights where she wouldn't wet the bed. Then it became two or three nights in a row. Eventually she was peeing the bed only once a week. As of today, she hasn't had a bed wetting for an entire month. Last week she even woke up in the middle of the night, went potty in the bathroom and put herself back to bed. Ahhhh...freedom at last. Such a big girl!
